RAVI SINGH, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India
In a bold move to channelise his passion for nature, Ravi Singh transitioned from his banking profession at Deutsche Bank to join WWF-India in 2003. In what he calls as “one of the best things he ever did in his life”, this career move has been both fulfilling and challenging.
Ravi Singh exudes energy and a positive attitude. He is a great motivator and is known for his integrity and honesty. He also communicates an infectious love for the outdoors and birding. Saving India’s natural environment is the abiding interest of his life – he is driven by the cause and has made it a life long commitment.
He describes his transition from the corporate world to the world of conservation as evolutionary and not revolutionary. He explains, “Wildlife and the Indian environment have been abiding interests throughout my life. The flame was nurtured over 45 years of traveling, reading, watching and working. However, I was able to contribute only in a small and quiet way to the cause of conservation because the professional demands of my career did not permit a broader involvement”. He adds, “The difference now is that I am working for an organization whose dedication I have admired and one that supports my life long quest of nature protection and conservation.”

Spearheading the largest conservation organization of India is not easy. However, his commitment to excellence and strong management expertise has been essential in building and maintaining a focused team for the diverse conservation work.

Some of the priorities areas of his work as the SG and CEO are to provide strategic direction to the conservation work of WWF-India and to add qualitatively to the WWF’s contribution to conservation. WWF works with Species, Forestry, Freshwater & Wetlands, Climate Change, Education, Law, Policy & Sustainable Livelihoods throughout India. Another important focal area is to work with local communities and corporations to ensure their involvement and commitment to the cause of conservation.

Ravi Singh studied at Delhi Public School, St. Stephen’s College and excelled. He topped the Delhi University with History Honors and received the coveted “Best All-Rounder Award” at St. Stephen’s in 1975 for excellence in sports and academics. He lectured in History before joining International Banking and last worked with Deutsche Bank as General Manager Mumbai.
